Ay Mi Negra was founded in Panama within a historic building in the Casco Antiguo, with a thoroughly original concept, establishing itself as the country's first dessert bar. The architects Moy Corkidi and Gabriel Wong have combined a symphony of visual elements and rustic-modern materials with the aim of stirring warm feelings in the restaurant's visitors — a challenge that meant generating new energy in the Casco Antiguo while holding on to the warmth of the neighbourhood. The lighting approach was to place track with projectors aimed at strategic angles, so that the historic elements of the building come forward and contrast with the modern work. Small points of light were added to the gold structure in the ceiling to lend something extra to so original a piece. An old rubble wall with an earthy texture was set against a vibrant angle of light that cuts across it and brings out its relief.
