In designing a dermatology practice, the architects behind the Panamanian studio Atmósferas decided the space had to go beyond its primary function: it also had to say something about the professional behind this new brand. "Caring for your skin" was what the space needed to represent — a practice in which you feel welcomed and at ease on entering. Somewhere warm, compassionate, affectionate, cheerful and young, like its doctor. "Studying the skin, looking at it microscopically, we found a beautiful visual composition that gives rise to what we can touch," say the architects, who set out to give patients the experience of that microscopic journey through the skin. The result is a space created in collaboration with the artist and graphic designer Alexander Wtges, in which there are no rigid boundaries and the softness of each room is expressed in its forms. Spherical fittings at reception and specifically chosen pieces such as the Verner Panton chair accompany that language, alongside mirrors integrated into each of the consulting rooms.
